CabRadar

CabRadar

A mobile app in development for licensed taxi and private-hire drivers.

Purpose of the app

CabRadar is currently in development for Android and iOS. Its purpose is to help licensed taxi and private-hire drivers decide where to work and which routes or areas to avoid. It brings together demand-related insights, road and traffic disruptions, public transport problems, major events, inspector activity, and reports submitted by the driver community.

By presenting this information in one interactive map, CabRadar is being designed to reduce the time drivers spend checking separate sources before and during a shift. The information is intended to support planning and informed decisions; it does not guarantee passenger demand, earnings, journey times, or the accuracy of every report.

App features and functionality

Demand insights

CabRadar is being developed to highlight places and times where taxi or private-hire demand may increase. These insights use relevant signals such as major events and public transport disruption to help drivers identify areas that may be busier. They are planning insights only and are not a guarantee of available passengers or earnings.

Road and traffic disruption map

The interactive map is being built to display live and recent road closures, incidents, traffic disruption, and community-submitted reports. Drivers can use the map to understand conditions around them, identify affected areas, and avoid delays where possible.

Public transport disruption and events

CabRadar brings public transport problems and major events into the same view as road information. This helps drivers understand where travel patterns may change, where additional demand may arise, and which nearby roads may become congested.

Location and navigation

When a driver grants location permission, CabRadar can show their position and nearby information on the map. Drivers can select relevant locations or incidents and open an external navigation app for directions. Location permission is optional and can be disabled in device settings.

Community reports

Signed-in drivers can submit road disruption reports to help other CabRadar users understand current local conditions. Reports are associated with the submitting account to support service integrity and prevent misuse.

Optional alerts

Drivers who enable push notifications can receive alerts about relevant updates. Notifications are optional and can be disabled at any time in device settings.

Accounts and access

Many map and information features are designed to be usable without an account. Google Sign-In or an email magic link is used for features that require authentication, including submitting reports and maintaining an account session.

Sign-in and Google user data

Sign-in is optional. In development, you can use CabRadar without an account for many features, but some features (such as submitting reports and syncing your session) require authentication.

If you choose Continue with Google, CabRadar uses Google Sign-In through Firebase Authentication. We request access to basic Google account information so we can:

When you sign in with Google, we receive your email address, display name, and Google account identifier (and profile picture URL if provided by Google). We do not access your Gmail, Google Drive, Contacts, or other Google services. We do not sell Google user data.

You may also sign in with an email magic link instead of Google. See our Privacy Policy for full details on data collection, use, retention, and deletion.

CabRadar's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Other permissions

With your permission, the app in development may access device location to show nearby disruptions and support map features, and push notifications to alert you to relevant updates. You can deny or revoke these permissions in your device settings at any time.

Deleting your account and data

You can ask us to delete your CabRadar account and associated personal data at any time by emailing hellocabradar@gmail.com with the subject "Account deletion request". We action verified requests within 30 days. Full details are in section 9 of our Privacy Policy. You can also revoke CabRadar's access to your Google account from your Google Account permissions page.
